Why a FIRST Summer Camp?

Running now for ten years, FIRST Discoveries Summer Science Day Camps are designed to challenge, amaze, and delight every participant. FIRST Place is an innovative working laboratory designed to engage participants as they explore science and engineering in fun and empowering ways. With networked computers, movable workbenches, and a demonstration area, FIRST Place creates the ideal space for exploration, invention and innovation.

What makes FIRST Discoveries Science Day Camps exciting? Each camp is developed to incorporate the same principles that make the FIRST  programs international successes. Using teamwork, mentors, and the tools and materials of science, campers will experience the discovery process that all scientists and inventors employ in the real world. FIRST Discoveries campers will explore various facets of the camps' themes while they:

  • work together in small teams
  • interact with scientists and professionals
  • explore through hands-on activities
  • get a really cool T-shirt

Schedule and Instruction

Camps begin each day  at 9 A.M. and end at 3 P.M., Monday through Friday (registration on the first day of camp starts at 8:30 A.M.). Drop-off is at the glass tower in front of the FIRST building at 200 Bedford St. in Manchester, NH. FIRST will provide snacks and juice, however, the campers need to bring a lunch each day.

The week will culminate on Friday with Parent Participation Day when parents and friends are invited to join in the grand finale with the campers. All camps are led by award-winning middle and high school teachers.

In addition, trained volunteers and staff, comprised of both high-school students and adults, will provide each child with quality instruction and motivation.
