Dr. Bart Kamen, brother of Dean Kamen

Dr. Bart Kamen, a longtime friend of the FIRST community, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 27th. The brother of founder Dean Kamen, Bart was a familiar presence at events and competitions who volunteered tirelessly to help make FIRST the remarkable organization it is today. 

The mission of FIRST is to inspire kids, and inspiration was certainly something that Bart provided. But in addition to that, he represented something invaluable: the potential of science and technology to make people’s lives better. As a doctor, as a mentor, and as a friend, Bart embodied the compassion and humanity that inspires all great technological achievement, and for setting that example, we are all in his debt.

Bart – we love you, and we will miss you.

1.  Due to higher-than-expected order volume for this year's game element, the rings are currently on back order.  Rings are expected to begin shipping on Monday, Oct. 8th.  

AndyMark has done a great job filling orders as quickly as we supply them.  The responsibility for stocking rings lies with the FTC program and not www.AndyMark.com, the point of sale.  Please send any questions regarding this issue to ftcteams@usfirst.org.

2.  Want to re-live the 2011 FTC World Championship?

All of the competition footage is now archived and available online here.  You can also find the closing ceremonies on the FTC YouTube channel.

3.  The LEGO Foundation FLL to FTC grants are still available.  The foundation has given out 92 grants to teams with 3 or more former FLL members, 28 grants to teams with 2  former FLL members and 25 grants to teams with 1 former FLL member. These are rookie team grants available to any rookie team that includes an FLL alumni, after they register with FIRST.
