2007 Scholarship Opportunities

Below is a listing of FIRST Scholarship offerings for the 2007 season.  This list is constantly updated as new scholarships are offered and as we receive updated listings from last year's scholarship donors. Be sure to check back frequently. Students on FTC teams should look for listings marked **FRC & FTC**. If you have questions about a specific scholarship, contact the school or organization directly.

ASME-ASME Auxiliary FIRST Clarke Scholarship
To recognize and reward students whose FIRST experience has inspired an interest in pursuing an engineering career, The ASME (The American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Foundation and the ASME Auxiliary will award $5,000 scholarships to nine (9) high school seniors active on FIRST teams, who are nominated by ASME members, ASME Auxiliary members, or ASME student members who are also active with FIRST. These awards will be for the first year of study (non-renewable) in an ABET accredited mechanical engineering or mechanical engineering technology program. Application deadline is March 1st, 2007.

Arizona State University
The Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering at Arizona State University is pleased to offer up to 6 annual scholarships for $3,000, renewable over 5 years, toward an ASU bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, and construction. The scholarships are awarded to FIRST students who have fully participated on a FIRST team during the past two years and who have been admitted to and will be entering the ASU Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering as a full-time student.   Applications must be submitted by March 16, 2007.

Boston University
Boston University has established a half-tuition scholarship, renewable
annually for up to 4 years, for students who have participated in the
FIRST Robotics program and have applied and been admitted to BU's
College of Engineering. BU FIRST Scholars will also receive funding for
up to 10 hours per week to participate in a research program with a
College of Engineering faculty member for one semester in the first two
years of study. BU admissions applications are available online and must
be submitted by January 1, 2007. Scholarship applications must be
submitted by February 1, 2007.

Clarkson University
In partnership with FIRST, Clarkson University will award up to twelve merit-based scholarships to students who have participated on a FIRST FRC team. Each scholarship recipient will receive up to $6,000 per year for four years upon enrollment at Clarkson University. Applications must be received by January 15, 2007.

Cleveland Institute of Art          NEW for 2007

In recognition of the creativity shown by FIRST participants, Cleveland Institute of Art is proud to initiate its partnership with FIRST by offering up to two scholarships valued at $5,000 per year for four years.  Eligible students are seniors who have participated on a FIRST team in 2006 or 2007, been admitted to CIA by March 1, and completed the CIA FIRST Scholarship application by March 1.  The Institute offers 16 majors, some of which are digital arts, integrated media, film/video/photographic arts, industrial design, biomedical art, and communication design.

College for Creative Studies
In partnership with FIRST, the College For Creative Studies will award up to five scholarships valued between $4,000 - $6,500 per year, renewable annually for a total of four years. These scholarships are available to high school seniors currently participating on a FIRST Team who have been admitted to CCS on or before March 1, 2007. Participation in FIRST must be noted on the CCS Admissions Application.

Colorado State University ­Pueblo
Colorado State University Pueblo (CSU-Pueblo) Department of Engineering is proud to be a participant in FIRST and to offer 10 - $1,000 scholarships for the ColoradoFIRST competition in Denver, March 29-31, 2007, and 10 - $2,000 scholarships for Championship Event in Atlanta, April 12-14, 2007.  This scholarship is available to any eligible high school student that is participating in the FIRST program on any FRC or FTC team.  The deadlines for applications are March 30, 2007, for the ColoradoFIRST event and April 13, 2007, for the Championship Event.

Colorado Technical University-Denver       NEW for 2007
Colorado Technical University - Denver Campuses, in partnership with FIRST, has established the CTU Denver/FIRST Robotics Scholarship Program. This program will assist FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Vex Challenge team members who plan to continue their education beyond high school. Two scholarships, each for a total of $3,000 over two years, are offered for full-time, undergraduate study at either of CTU Denver's accredited campuses. Applications must be submitted by June 18, 2007.

Daniel Webster College
In partnership, FIRST and Daniel Webster College have established a merit based scholarship in the amount of $15,000 per year for four years to benefit a deserving student who has participated on a FIRST team during his or her high school years and who would like to attend Daniel Webster College. The student may enroll in any course of study at Daniel Webster College. Daniel Webster now offers a 4 year degree program in aeronautical and mechanical engineering. The student must meet the regular academic requirements for admission as written in the college catalogue, as well as meeting requirements for scholarship retention. The deadline for application is March 1, 2007.

DeVry University
DeVry University is offering fifty FIRST Scholar Awards, valued at up to $9,000, to FIRST Robotics participants!  FIRST Scholar Awards are available to high school graduates.  Students must be registered participants in a FIRST Robotics competition.  DeVry University’s FIRST Scholar Awards are intended for students who wish to pursue a degree on a full-time basis at DeVry in the United States.  Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.  The deadline is one year from high school graduation to apply and start at DeVry University. Drexel University
Drexel University will award a merit scholarship in the amount of $8,000 per year of attendance to 5 junior students who are actively a member of a FIRST team at any high school in the country. Each junior student who applies for the scholarship must meet the regular academic requirements for admission as well as meeting requirements for scholarship retention. In order for the selected students to receive the scholarship award, they must enroll in a full time, day undergraduate program of study at Drexel University. The deadline for application is March 1, 2007.

Eastern Michigan University
FIRST and Eastern Michigan University have an unlimited number of scholarships for deserving students who have participated on a FIRST team during their high school years and would like to attend Eastern Michigan University. The students may enroll in any course of study at Eastern Michigan University. Recipients of this scholarship will receive $1,500 per year for four years for a total of $6,000 upon enrollment at EMU. Application deadline is May 1.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and FIRST have established ten merit scholarships at $5,000 per year of attendance for high school juniors. These scholarships will benefit deserving junior students who are actively involved on a competing FIRST FRC team during his or her junior year in high school and who would like to attend Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. In order for the selected students to receive the scholarship award, they must enroll in a full time, day undergraduate program of study at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Applications must be received no later than December 1 of the student's senior year.

Fairleigh Dickinson University
Farleigh Dickinson University will award an annually renewable merit award for high school seniors actively involved on a competing FIRST team with an interest in attending FDU.  In partnership, FDU and FIRST are offering three FIRST scholarship to qualifying students.  Winners will be announced at the National Championships in April.  Annually renewable if student maintains a 3.0 grade point.  The application deadline is January 15, 2007.

Ferris State University
In partnership with FIRST, Ferris State University has established a merit-based scholarship to recognize the achievements of the FIRST Robotics Competition participants. This scholarship will provide up to three $1,000 scholarships that can be utilized in any program of study. The application deadline is April 15.

Florida Atlantic University
In partnership with FIRST, Florida Atlantic University will award a FIRST Robotics Scholarship commencing in the fall semester of 2007. The hands-on engineering and technical experiences learned while competing in FIRST are skills you can build on as an undergraduate Engineering or Computer Science student at FAU. Broward or Palm Beach County, Florida high-school seniors participating in their high school’s FIRST FRC or FTC program are eligible to apply. The FAU FIRST scholar will receive funding for twelve (12) credits each fall and spring semester for four (4) years. Total value of the scholarship is approximately $12,000.00 dollars. The application deadline is February 20, 2007.

Florida Institute of Technology
Florida Tech is proud to offer an unlimited number of Florida Tech FIRST Scholarships. Each FIRST Scholarship, the amount of which will vary for each student dependent upon his/her academic background, will be given in conjunction with other academic awards. (The total academic scholarship package, which includes the FIRST Scholarship, can have a value of up to $16,000/year, depending on the applicant’s academic background.)  High school seniors who are actively involved in a competing FIRST FRC team during their senior year of high school and who have been admitted to Florida Institute of Technology on or before January 15, 2007 will be automatically considered for these awards. Recipients may enroll in any course of study at the university.

Georgia Institute of Technology
Georgia Tech has established a $5,000 scholarship for students who have been actively involved on a participating FIRST team during his or her junior and senior year of high school. The scholarship is offered to an incoming freshman who will be pursuing a baccalaureate degree in engineering.  Applications are due by March 1.

Grand Valley State University
Grand Valley State University has established a merit based engineering scholarship to recognize the achievements of FIRST Robotics Competition participants. This renewable scholarship will provide a $16,000 award, ($4000 per year, renewable for three additional years) for study in the School of Engineering, Padnos College of Engineering and Computing at Grand Valley State. Application for admission to the university must be completed by February 1, 2007.

Hampshire College
Hampshire College will award two $5,000 per year renewable merit scholarships (valued at $20,000) to  FIRST team members who enroll at Hampshire College in any course of study. The scholarship winners may also apply for need-based financial aid from Hampshire.  Applications are due by January 15th.

Henry Ford Community College
Henry Ford Community College, in partnership with FIRST, is pleased to offer an unlimited number of scholarships to participants in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and FIRST Vex Challenge (FRC).  High school seniors in the Dearborn, Michigan Public School District who participate on a FIRST FRC or FTC team may qualify for a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship.   Students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours in either the fall and/or winter terms at Henry Ford Community College.  These scholarships are awarded through high school counselors.  If you are interested, please speak to your counselor by May 1.

Hofstra University
Hofstra University will award 4 annual merit-based scholarships to active FIRST team members. These scholarships are valued at $1,500 per year for four years of study to high school seniors in the USA. In order for selected students to receive these scholarship awards, they must enroll as a full-time student in an undergraduate engineering or computer science program of study at Hofstra University. Application materials must be received by March 15.

Idaho State University
Idaho State University is offering a scholarship to cover one year of resident tuition for an incoming freshman that participated in FIRST. The scholarship is worth approximately $4,400 contingent on satisfactory academic performance and available funding. Scholarship recipients must enroll in an engineering program. Application materials must be received by February 15th.

Illinois Institute of Technology
Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT) will award up to three FIRST scholarships to high-school seniors who are actively involved on a competing  FIRST team. These scholarships, which are valued at $6,000 per year for four years (five years for architecture), are applicable towards tuition expenses at IIT.  To be eligible, FIRST team students must apply and be admitted as a first-year, full-time student in any undergraduate program of study at IIT.  Application materials must be received by March 1.

ITT Technical Institute
To further the goals of FIRST, each participating ITT Technical Institute intends to award one scholarship annually to a FIRST participant in the FIRST Region. The scholarship award will be in the amount of $36,000 ($9,000 per year) to be applied toward any bachelor’s degree program offered at the school. ITT will offer a scholarship in the following FIRST regions: Arizona, Boilermaker, Detroit, Great Lakes, Lone Star, NASA/VCU (Virginia), New York City, Pacific Northwest, St. Louis, Southern California, West Michigan, Wisconsin. Applicants should contact the Dean of a participating college listed in the description for an application form, due dates and the location to which applications should be submitted.

Kansas State University
Working in partnership with FIRST, the College of Engineering at Kansas State University will award a $3,000-per-year merit scholarship, renewable annually for a total of four years to a FIRST participant who enrolls full time in the College of Engineering and who maintains a GPA of 3.50. Deadline for application for the FIRST Scholarship is February 16, 2007.

Lake Superior State University
FIRST is proud to partner with Lake Superior State University (LSSU) to offer FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) and FIRST Vex Challenge (FTC) high school participants a scholarship to attend the LSSU School of Engineering and Technology. Up to 4 merit-based scholarships valued at $2,000 per year have been established by LSSU's Industrial Advisory Board (IAB), faculty/staff and alumni. The scholarships are renewable for one additional year. The scholarships cover nearly 30% of LSSU's total tuition cost and will be awarded to up to 4 incoming students out of a typical incoming class of about 60 students. The deadline date is March 1, 2007.

Lawrence Technological University
Lawrence Technological University and FIRST offer a scholarship to introduce students to the many rewards that science and technology offer. LTU will award a $12,000, four-year undergraduate scholarship (valued at $48,000) to a FIRST team student participant. Each team participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition or FIRST Vex Challenge may nominate one of its student members for the LTU FIRST Scholarship. Applications must be received by March 1.

Marquette University            NEW for 2007
In partnership with FIRST, Marquette University College of Engineering has established one (1) merit scholarship for a high school senior who has been actively involved on a competing FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) team during his senior year in high school and who would like to attend Marquette University.  This merit scholarship is in the amount of $4,000 per year of attendance up to a total of $16,000.  The recipient may be eligible for additional merit scholarships from Marquette University in addition to being able to apply for need-based financial aid.  Applications must be received by March 1.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology      NEW for 2007

In support of the FIRST mission, and in recognition of the achievements of FIRST participants, MIT is proud to announce the establishment of an endowment to be used to help fund need-based scholarships for freshmen who participated in FIRST during high school.  Students interested in being considered for this scholarship should mention their FIRST involvement when completing any required financial aid forms. FIRST experience will be considered when matching need based financial aid funds with eligible students.  Further information about MIT and its undergraduate curriculum may be found at www.mitadmissions.org/. Deadline for financial aid materials is Feb 15th.

Mercedes-Benz USA: DRIVE YOUR FUTURE Scholarship Award
Mercedes-Benz is pleased to announce the 2007 DRIVE YOUR FUTURE; The Mercedes-Benz USA Scholarship Program. This year, a $2,500 scholarship, renewable up to $10,000 over four years, will be made available to a graduating high-school senior involved in FIRST who is the first in their familiy to pursue a college education. Students will be evaluated based on academic achievement, financial need, leadership and participation in school and community activities. This scholarship may be applied toward full-time undergraduate study at any accredited two-year or 4-year college, university, or vocational-technical school in the USA.  Applications will be available in January.  Completed applications must be received by February 23rd.

Michigan State University - Fred Hubacker Scholarship
The Fred Hubacker Family Fund, FIRST, and Michigan State University have established a scholarship to encourage incoming freshmen that participated in a FIRST program for a minimum of 2 years in high school to pursue an education in engineering. Michigan State University may annually award $1,500 to one freshman student towards the payment of tuition. This scholarship may be renewable provided the recipient enrolls in the College of Engineering at MSU and remains in academic good standing with the college. Scholarship applications must be received by March 1st, however, the student should apply to Michigan State University early in the fall semester of the senior year.

Michigan Technological University
Michigan Technological University, in partnership with FIRST, will award one $2,500 merit-based scholarship for an undergraduate degree in any engineering discipline for the 2007-08 academic year. This scholarship is available to any eligible high-school senior who is actively involved on a competing FIRST (FRC or FTC) team and who plans to attend Michigan Technological University to pursue an undergraduate degree in engineering.  Application materials must be submitted by March 16, 2007.

New Hampshire Technical Institute      NEW for 2007
New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) plans to award three non-renewable $1,000 scholarships to full time students entering the Engineering Technology program at NHTI in Concord, New Hampshire.  Students must have been on a FIRST FRC team for the '06/'07 season and have been admitted to both NHTI and the University of New Hampshire-Manchester under the dual admission program.  The deadline for applications is June 30, 2007.

New Jersey Institute of Technology
New Jersey Institute of Technology will award up to 5 merit scholarships to selected Newark high school seniors who have been a member of a FIRST team at their high schools. Recipients of this award will receive a scholarship, each having a four-year value of up to $10,000. The student must meet the academic requirements for admission to NJIT as well as meeting requirements for scholarship retention. The application deadline is April 1.

Northeastern University
This merit-based NU-FIRST scholarship provides full-tuition for up to eight semesters of undergraduate study to a high school student who has participated in FIRSTon an FRC team. The scholarship will be renewed for each of the recipient's eight academic semesters provided s/he maintains good academic standing in the College of Engineering. The scholarship application deadline is March 1. If the University receives your admissions application by January 15, you will be given priority consideration for other merit-based scholarships as well. The Pennsylvania College of Technology, a special mission affiliate of
Penn State University, committed to applied technology, offers one
$1,500 scholarship to a deserving student who participated on a FIRST

Phil Clancy Scholarship
The Phil Clancy FIRST Memorial Scholarship is being offered once again by the family and friends of Phil Clancy, a former FIRST team advisor. This $2,000 award will be offered to a student who is on a Michigan FIRST FRC team and pursuing a degree in engineering or a related technology field. The application deadline is March 5, 2007.

The Purdue University College of Engineering, with generous assistance from Delphi Corporation, is pleased to announce a $30,000 scholarship payable over four years to offset the costs of obtaining a Purdue baccalaureate degree in engineering. Four to eight multiyear Boilermaker Regional Scholarships totaling approximately $20,000 are also available. These scholarships will be awarded to a senior in high school who has participated at least one full season in high school with a FIRST Robotics Competition team. Only students who are admitted to Purdue University will be considered. Interested students must complete an application by February 1.

Raytheon Company has established a scholarship program to assist FIRST Robotics competitors who plan to continue their education in college as math, science or technology majors. Schoolcraft College
In partnership with FIRST, the Schoolcraft College Foundation is committed to granting at least one annual, merit-based scholarship (valued at $1,500), to a high school senior(s) who has participated on a FIRST team and is pursuing an associate degree in technology (includes engineering, computer science and graphics) at Schoolcraft College. The cost of a full time education at Schoolcraft is approximately $2,500-$3,000 (including books). Preference will be given to those applicants who reside in the Schoolcraft's Michigan service area of - Livonia, Garden City, Plymouth, Plymouth Township, Northville, Northville Township, Canton Township and Novi. Schoolcraft College's commitment will be renewable annually.

University of New Hampshire
The Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of New Hampshire supports an academic scholarship program for qualified applicants. These scholarships are based on academic achievement and potential and a total of $6,000 is available to all FIRST FRC and FTC applicants. The top applicant will receive $2,500 and the remaining funds of $3,500 will be split amongst all other FIRST applicants. There is some potential for renewal of these scholarships each year but none is guaranteed. We do feel that the FIRST experience is very valuable in the development of future mechanical engineers and we will take this experience into consideration when making scholarship awards in the future.  Scholarship materials must be submitted by February 1.

WPI - Design Innovation Scholarship
For the tenth consecutive year, WPI will award a full-tuition, four-year undergraduate scholarship (valued at more than $130K) to a FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) or FIRST Vex Challenge (FTC) team student participant. This year, each team participating in the 2007 FIRST Robotics Competition may nominate one of its student members for the WPI Design Innovation Scholarship. The candidate must be in her/his senior year of high school and be an active FIRST (FRC or FTC) team member. An adult team leader will submit a letter of nomination to accompany their candidate’s WPI application forms. Students nominated by their teams must be capable of meeting normal WPI admissions requirements, have demonstrated enthusiasm for engineering and science, and possess the ability and innovation necessary to excel as an engineer or scientist. The winning student must maintain satisfactory academic progress at WPI to maintain the award.   Applications for admission to WPI must be received by February 1. In recognition of the extraordinary commitment that Paul A. Allaire, WPI Class of 1960, has made to the programs of FIRST and to the young people of America, WPI is again offering a full-tuition, four-year scholarship (valued at more than $130K) for a student to attend WPI in pursuit of a career in engineering, science, or management.  This scholarship is intended to be awarded through the normal admissions process at WPI to a student who is a Native American, African American, Hispanic, and/or female and is currently a high school senior participating on a FIRST Robotics Challenge (FRC) or FIRST Vex Challenge (FTC) team.
