While total FRC team registrations for the 2015 season have been coming along nicely, we are a little behind on our rookie teams compared to last year at this time, and we could use your help! Do you know of any rookie teams that need some help registering, or any potential teams that need some encouragement? How about reaching out to them to touch base? Sometimes just a positive word or two is all it takes, and you may end up being the key that opens a whole new world of possibilities to some very deserving students.

If they have any questions about FRC at all, they...

2014 EKOCYCLE Cube 3D Printer Program

Last year, we were able to offer 3D Printers to FRC teams through FIRST Choice. This year, we’re excited to announce that FIRST is able to offer EKOCYCLE Cube 3D Printers to FRC and FTC teams thanks to the generosity of 3D Systems and Coca-Cola.

More details are available here. Applications are due October 19!

Please see the update below on the Kit of Parts Drive System Option from the Kit of Parts team:

Given the positive reception the last two seasons, the option for Veteran FRC teams to opt out of receiving the 2015 Kit of Parts Drive System will be available again for 2015! Veteran teams can choose to receive a Product Donation Voucher (PDV) from AndyMark instead of the KOP Drive System at Kickoff.  Rookie teams will automatically receive the KOP Drive System.

The PDV will again be worth $450 and can be used on AndyMark parts. To accommodate orders and lead...

Something New – The 2015 FRC Game

Wait. Isn’t the new game always, well, new? Yes, but that’s the point of this note. Every year we try to do a little something different. Sometimes a lot of something different. No one should look at any rules from prior years and think “They would...

Wow. It really is. Less than that now.

Check out this video from FRC Team 2630, Thunderbolts, from Israel.

Nice work, guys!

Is it strange that this video gave me goose bumps?

Remember the old days during 1st event registration when you’d make your selection, click the button, and hope for the best? You never knew what would happen, or even if anything would happen. The last few years, and this year particularly, seems like it’s more click and go. Where’s the excitement in that? :-)

Our crack IT staff once again this year upped the system resources available for registration. For those interested in the details, changes from last year were:

    • New VMware server cluster that increased the CPU core count and doubled the...

Today’s blog post, a long one, was written by Kate Pilotte, FRC Kit of Parts Manager, who’s facilitating the new control system efforts.

Hopefully, you’ve heard by now that all registered and paid FRC Teams are receiving new control system devices in their 2015 Kickoff Kits (this will include at least a roboRIO, dual-mode access point/bridge, a Power Distribution Panel, a Voltage Regulator Module, a Pneumatic Control Module, and four Talon SR motor controllers. The...

Initial event registration less than a week away! Are you excited? I am!

But before you get too excited – make sure you are ‘green to go’.

When you first log into TIMS, you are taken to the ‘My FRC Dashboard’ screen. On that screen, you will see a section that looks like this, but with your team number and name filled in:

Click on the ‘Team Summary’ button...

The rumors are true! We will have an official FRC Regional Down Under in the 2015 season. We couldn’t be more excited about this, or about helping our friends at Macquarie University, who honestly are doing most of the heavy lifting, make this happen. It will be a Week 3 event. Look for more details in the events listing:  http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprograms/frc/regional-events

I’ve got some good news. A cross-functional task force, which included volunteers from all five FRC Districts, has developed a way to allow district teams to participate in district events other than their own.

In the 2015 season, FIRST In Michigan, IndianaFIRST, Mid-Atlantic Robotics, NEFIRST, and Pacific Northwest FIRST will collaborate with FIRST HQ to fill any “open” district event spots with teams from other districts. An “open district spot” is defined as a spot that remains open after all teams in a district have had the opportunity...

This is Hannah, FRC Program Coordinator, taking over the FRC Blog with some important news!

FIRST Robotics Competition and FRC GameSense are excited to announce that they are working together on a web broadcast:  Behind the Lines. If you were familiar with the Ask an Expert calls, this is the newest version. The purpose of this series is to make key knowledge and resources available to the community through an engaging hour-long show. The first half will be a...

As some of you have noticed, all FRC events have not yet been posted to the event schedule. I apologize for that. As I noted in this blog we typically wait until we have signed contracts in hand before posting events to ensure all parties are in agreement on the details. Contracts have been slower to get signed this year for several reasons. We’ll be working to address those issues for...

We still have many FRC teams that have that have not completed the Youth Protection Program (YPP) screening required for them to register for events.  As we’ve noted before in this blog, and blasted several times in emails, both your Main (Lead Mentor 1) and Alternate (Lead Mentor 2) Contacts must pass YPP screening before you will be able to register for your first event starting at Noon Eastern Time on Thursday, September 25th.  Only two weeks away!

Don’t be "That Guy or That Girl" that doesn’t get this done in time.  And don’t let your friends from other teams be "...
