Get InvolvedWe need volunteers for all of our programs and events. Use the list below to
find an opportunity that matches your interest, time availability, and
skills.
Team
Volunteers
FIRST engages thousands of adult Team Mentors and
Coaches volunteering with young people ages 6-18. Team Mentors and Coaches work
side-by-side with our FIRST teams to build self-confidence, knowledge
and life skills while motivating young people to pursue opportunities in
science, technology and engineering. They have a variety of backgrounds, but all
share in the FIRST commitment to inspiring in young people, their
schools, and communities, an appreciation of science and technology, and how
mastering these can enrich the lives of all. The time needed for a Team Mentor
or Coach will vary with the program selected but generally these positions would
require a 6-month commitment to team support.
Event Volunteers
FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC)
Regional Competitions take place Thursday through Saturday each week
throughout the month of March. Each event requires a 1-4 day volunteer
commitment. The Championship event is scheduled for April 16-18, 2009 at the
Georgia Dome and World Congress Center in Atlanta. FIRST events are an
exciting and fun-filled opportunity to see youth in action, applying the
knowledge and skills developed through team participation. Each competition
event depends on an abundance of volunteers with a broad spectrum of talents to
support operating needs and competition demands. FIRST continually seeks more individuals
to help.
FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC)
Events will be conducted October through March with the Championship
to be held in April at the Georgia Dome and World Congress Center in Atlanta.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL)
Local qualifying events and state tournaments occur between November
and January each year. The FLL World Festival Event coincides with the FRC
Championship in April 2008 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

Organizing Committee Volunteers
The work of volunteers serving on FIRST LEGO League, FIRST Robotics Competition, and FIRST Tech Challenge
Organizing Committees provides the foundation for FIRST events. From fundraising
to volunteer recruitment, the responsibilities of the Committee are varied, and
are critical to ensuring the success of an event. These are year round volunteer
positions. For more information email us at volunteer@usfirst.org
FIRST Lego
League (FLL) Operational Partners
FIRST LEGO League (FLL)
relies on volunteers to run the program and manage a region. We call our
volunteers in each region FLL Operational Partners, or FLL Partners, and FLL
would not exist without them. Teams and partners can be assured that the
Operational Partner in their region is well prepared to suport the program and
them.
FLL Partners fundraise, run tournaments, hold workshops and
demonstrations, market FLL locally, handle public relations, and recruit
volunteers and teams. Our FLL Partners maintain certain standards relative to
tournaments, the Challenge, and overall program administration. Some FLL
Partners are affiliated with major corporations that support FIRST and
FLL. Others are based in non-profits or universities that have complementary
missions to FLL. For all FLL Partners, their most important goal is to share the
FLL program with as many individuals as possible.
Interested in learning
more about becoming an Operational Partner? This process usually takes about a
year to establish, using a specific set of criteria and working with
representatives from FIRST and LEGO to ensire success for teams,
volunteers, and the overall program. Please contact FIRST to start the
process.
