"Behind the Design” Authors Documenting 2015 Robots

Would your team like a chance to be a part of the next book about FRC robots? Have you read or seen the Behind the Design books that cover the 2006 Aim High and 2007 Rack 'N' Roll FRC seasons? Maybe your team has used the previous FIRST books as references. FIRST will be documenting the 2015 competition season with a book titled “FIRST Behind the Design: Modern Design, Manufacturing and Control of Robots.”

The book will address design with six chapters:

FIRST Scholarship Provider - Bart Kamen Memorial FIRST Scholarship

In 2012, the Bart Kamen Memorial FIRST Scholarship was established, in memory of long tenured and passionate FIRST supporter, distinguished pediatric oncologist, cancer pharmacologist and devoted family man, Bart Kamen.

FIRST and the Thiel Fellowship

As you know the mission of FIRST is to inspire young people to be science and technology leaders, by engaging them in exciting mentor-based programs that build science, engineering and technology skills, that inspire innovation, and that foster well-rounded life capabilities including self-confidence, communication, and leadership. Many times, the next step after high school and FIRST, is college, but not always.

GameSense Holiday Special

Shouldn’t FRC Kickoff and the first few weeks of build season come with its own Holiday Special? The GameSense crew thinks so. Me too.

Tune in to the GameSense Holiday Special* at 9PM Eastern on Tuesday, January 13th at I’ll be on, talking about all things Recycle Rush. Join in the chat, and ask some questions! I had a fantastic time with the GameSense crew on their post-season show last year, I can’t wait to get with them again!

Are you a senior in high school on a FIRST Team or a former Youth Team Participant? If so, make sure to take advantage of the opportunities that are available to you as part of the FIRST Alumni Programs. These opportunities include: The FIRST Scholarship Program, the Internship Portal, and the Alumni Network on LinkedIn.

Don’t Eat the Noodles

Today’s blog post is from Kate Pilotte, FRC's Kit of Parts Manager.

Liz, from AndyMark, was helpful enough to remind the community not to eat the churros that came in the AM14U drive base kits last year… even if you find them covered in honey and cinnamon. Still sage advice for this year, by the way.

This season, we want to echo a similar sentiment: please don’t eat the (pool) noodles, even if doused in a fresh pesto sauce or part of a savory chicken soup.

Guest Blog: LinkedIn profiles for high school students

Hello everyone! I am Callie Carbajal, Chief Executive Officer of the Buchanan Bird Brains, FIRST Robotics Competition Team 1671, and a 2014 FIRST Dean’s List Award Winner. Today, I am going to tell you a bit about how to create a LinkedIn Profile as a high school student. The purpose of your LinkedIn Profile is to sell yourself as a professional; however, everyone understands that you are a high school student, or you are recently out of high school and you do not have huge amounts of professional experience.
