FIRST Robotics Competition Volunteer of the Year - Dave Lavery
At the 2009 FIRST Championship, Dave Lavery, NASA’s Program Executive for Solar System Exploration, was named FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Volunteer of the Year. As a team mentor, Dave was honored as a Woodie Flowers Award Finalist in 2005, recognizing his outstanding ability to inspire students. He has been instrumental in orchestrating multiple rookie team grants over the years, is an active member of both the Washington DC and NASA/VCU Regional Committees, and coordinates the participation of the NASA machine shops as resources for teams. Dave is a member of the FIRST Executive Advisory Board, an avid member of the Game Design Committee (GDC), and can often be found on-line in the wee hours of the morning answering GDC questions and updating game rules. He also gives up his Christmas vacation each year to create the animated game video shown at Kickoff and throughout the competition season.
Dave is a model volunteer who goes above and beyond to further the goals of the FIRST Robotics Competition.
