Girl Scouts Celebrate One Year FIRST Alliance Anniversary

In the midst of all the 2009 FIRST Championship excitement, the Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) invited local Atlanta troop members and Girl Scout FIRST teams to celebrate and enjoy the events of the Championship. April marks the one-year anniversary of the FIRST-GSUSA alliance in support of the two organizations’ commitment to inspiring more girls and young women to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers. The partnership was designed to foster opportunities for girls to explore STEM by providing hands-on experience in the designing, building, and programming of robots while applying the concept of Gracious ProfessionalismTM during competition.
During the past year, over 1,200 GSUSA-FIRST patches have been given to those girls participating in a FIRST event. Girl Scout teams who qualified to participate in the 2009 Championship included FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) Team “Space Cookies;” FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Teams, “Rock ‘n Roll Robots” and “Techno Chix;” and FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Teams, “Ice Breakers” and “Weather Robots.”
