State of Missouri to Incorporate Conservation Idea Proposed by FIRST LEGO League Team

Thanks to a suggestion from FIRST LEGO League (FLL) team “The Oddly Charged Particles,” the Division of Facilities Management, Design and Construction for the State of Missouri is one step closer in their effort to pursue and implement energy conservation measures for the state.
As part the “Power Puzzle” FLL season and the team’s goal to use science know-how to solve every day environmental issues, “The Oddly Charged Particles” presented a plan to the Department to save the state $314,000 over 5 years using an energy conservation technology called Vending Miser for state vending machines. After reviewing the technology, the department has agreed to make it a requirement when they rebid their vending machine contract in the near future.
“We have discussed the Vending Miser technology with industry experts and have discovered that it is becoming an industry standard to include this technology in newer machines. Thanks for your interest in (our) energy conservation efforts,” said Trenton T. Blair, Director of Facilities Management, Design & Construction for the State of Missouri.
Now graduates of the FLL program, “The Oddly Charged Particles” will “Face Off!” in the 2008/09 FIRST Tech Challenge.
