Vice President, Finance, FIRST
Prior to joining FIRST in 1999, Terry Durkin was Controller of Thermal Dynamics’ New Hampshire operations. Previously, Durkin held financial and operating positions at several major New Hampshire corporations including 10 years at Sanders Associates, now part of BAE Systems, and a total of seven years with Freudenberg-NOK as a Controller and then a Product Manager. Later, he joined a silicone manufacturing startup in Maine, servicing GE Plastics, where he was the Business Manager responsible for financial and business operations. There, Durkin had extensive involvement on the ISO 9001 team that achieved certification. He also worked as a Business Manager at a computer-networking firm, Cabletron Systems, whose revenues eclipsed $1 billion annually.
Durkin joined FIRST as the part-time Director of Finance, eventually becoming the Director of Finance & Administration. In addition to Finance and General Accounting, he has also had responsibility for Human Resources, Information Technology, and the FIRST Facility; a 150,000 square foot historical mill building completed in 1844. In 2006, Durkin was promoted to Vice President, Finance and more recently, his duties were expanded to include oversight of the FIRST Strategic Sourcing and Services team.
Durkin is active in community organizations, including his local Lions Club, and serves on the board of directors of David’s House, a public charity whose mission is to provide support and a home-away-from-home for families with children receiving medical care at the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Durkin earned an associate’s in liberal arts, and then bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Business Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University and Rivier University.
